Evaluation Toolkit for Youth Programs

Developed in support of Ontario grassroots youth programs by Youth Research and Evaluation eXchange.

GETTING STARTED

The Getting Started section provides you with an overview of why YouthREX created this Evaluation Toolkit, who it was created for and how it is organized.

This section also introduces you to how we understand evaluation within a youth sector context and provides you with an overview of Ontario’s Stepping Up Framework of Youth Wellbeing, the strategic framework that guides youth work in the province of Ontario.

PHASE 01: DISCOVERY

This phase takes you on a quest to explore and better understand your program and the resources it has, and might need for an evaluation journey.

What do we want to learn from an evaluation of our program?
How can we engage youth and other important stakeholders?
What is a logic model and how do we create one for our program?

PHASE 02: ACTION

Some might call this the ‘juicy’ part of an evaluation journey – where you flesh out your plan and collect, analyze and interpret your data.

What is an evaluation plan?
What are some engaging ways to collect stories and other data?
How can we make sense of all the data we’ve collected and bring the data to life?

STEP 03

Planning and Focusing your Evaluation

STEP 04

Collecting Evidence

STEP 05

Analyzing, Interpreting and Animating Evidence

PHASE 03: LEGACY

This final phase is all about learning from evidence and sharing the real story and impact of your program with your stakeholders!

What can I do to inspire my team to improve our program for next time?
How can we share the real story of our program with our diverse stakeholders?
How can we share our findings online?

STEP 07

Learning from Evidence: External Communication
